Alison O’Reilly is a musician from Sydney, Australia who now lives in Te Whanganui-a-Tara and is one half of the band Varda. The 5 tracks that make up Hiemal were recorded in 2014 and were made almost exclusively on a Tascam Portastudio 4 track cassette recorder and sung into her iPhone 3 voice memo app. Alison collaborated with Chain Punk Baddie in 2014 to remix the songs and let them into the world.
In these songs you can hear the ghosts of Raymond Scott's Songs for Babies, Delia Derbyshire's Radiophonic recordings, and hints of Trish Keenan and Arthur Russell all distilled through Alison's singular voice and exploration of keyboards, tape, and electronics.
